Gewurztraminer Herrenweg de Turkheim Vielles Vignes Vendange Tardive
Bright yellow in colour, the nose shows great aromatic intensity with fresh exotic fruits (lychee), citrus zests and an overall sensation of maturity while the botrytis remains discreet. The palate is an unctuous continuation of the nose. It finishes on an attractive round sweet mouth-feel, superbly balanced with a nice citrusy acidity.
Pinot Gris Clos Jesbal Vendange Tardive
This wine has a classic nose with lots of minerals and light toasty aromas. It is very easy to think that this would be a dry wine on the nose. The palate shows classic structure, at least the kind of structure we are looking for in late harvest wines: great acidity, palatable but refrained sweetness, and long aftertaste. Just like the nose, the palate is still to open, but this is expected in a wine that should perhaps reach apogee only in many years.
Pinot Gris Clos Windsbuhl Selection de Grains Nobles
The colour is slightly deeper, sign of more noble rot influence and dry extract. The nose boasts the Windsbuhl character with lots of minerality and toasty savoury aromas. The palate is concentrated, hides the sweetness behind a tight acidity and lots of chalky influence. Very long and full finish with cooked salty caramel flavours. The Windsbuhl SGN is perhaps less creamy or sweet than the other SGN made in 2008, but it needs to be tasted at the end as it definitely has the strongest personality.
