There was some nervousness this year as we moved our annual portfolio tasting out of our comfort zone and into a much bigger venue at OXO2. We knew the venue and the wines would be amazing, but when we arrived for set up, the white vastness looked a little daunting! We needn’t have worried – from the minute the doors opened, the room was buzzing with winemakers, trade and press guests. We didn’t have time to catch our breath until we finally closed the doors again at 5pm, a little footsore, but absolutely delighted with the turnout.
Thanks you so much to all of you who made it – we love talking to our customers and showing you some of the wines you may not have had the chance to taste before. There was lots to discover this year, with three new agencies joining us since last February’s event, and we were thrilled to have Neil Ellis, Katie Jones and the Domane Wachau team with us to guide us through their wines. We certainly worked them hard!
The masterclasses proved as popular as ever – there is always an audience eager to learn from the horse’s mouth, so a big thank you to Christian Seely, Roman Horvath MW and our own Martin Skelton for giving their time and sharing their expertise.
It was also a big day for fizz: Etienne Défossé launched two new single vineyard wines from Champagne Deutz which will sit within their Hommage range; Rathfinny Estate’s Mark and Sarah Driver gave us a preview of their Blanc de Noirs wines which will be available later this year and Eva Plazas joined us to showcase the new organic wines from Vilarnau in their fantastic Gaudi inspired bottles.
For those of you who didn’t manage to make it, look out for next year’s date and in the meantime ask your sales manager for details of any wines you missed out on.
